Tie-Ups (Laced Dress Shoes)
Tie-ups are the gold standard for formal attire. The presence of laces allows for a micro-adjustable fit and a structured, “closed” look.
-
Oxfords: The most formal. They feature a closed lacing system where the eyelet tabs are sewn under the vamp. This creates a slim, seamless silhouette that is mandatory for black-tie events or high-stakes business.
-
Derbies: A bit more relaxed. They have an open lacing system (tabs sewn on top of the vamp). They are easier to put on and offer more room for people with high arches.
-
Aesthetic: Sharp, disciplined, and traditional.
